Sparked in part by Florida Gulf Coast University’s new Emergent Technologies Institute (ETI), the technology sector has a bright future in Lee County. The ETI is designed to be an incubator for the creation and advancement of new technology, including solar energy production. Over the next decade, the ETI is expected to bring more than 1,000 technology jobs to Lee County and will train a highly skilled regional technology workforce.
Technology Sector by the Numbers
Technology companies span a wide variety of sectors, including healthcare, telecommunications, energy, construction and others. Businesses classified as computer systems and design, scientific research and development, data processing and telecommunications services combined to produce nearly $630 million in revenue in Lee County in 2018.
Technology Associations:
The Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership is a nonprofit membership organization to promote and expand the local regional technology sector through seminars, forums and educational programs. The partnership is comprised of technology companies, technology users, economic development groups and higher education institutions.
