On Oct. 28, more than 100 guests attended the Horizon Council General Membership Meeting, which featured the Workplace Wellness Awards. Three recipients of the 2016 Healthy Workplace Wellness Awards were recognized by the Horizon Council Healthcare Task Force. The businesses were:
- Small Business (two to 50 employees): Adknowledge, Inc., a digital marketing firm, won for tracking employee wellness points with 99 percent of employees participating.
- Midsize Business (51 to 99 employees): South Trail Fire Rescue was recognized for the PEER Fitness Coordinators who regularly communicate with employees and assist with workout challenges, questions and suggestions.
- Large Business (99 employees and up): Two businesses were recognized. LeeSar, Inc. was recognized for covering 100 percent of employee’s company health insurance premiums and providing 60 percent toward dependent/spouse coverage; Florida Gulf Coast University was recognized for its new wellness program, which has been in existence less than a year but has more than 450 participating employees.
The awards are a collaborative effort between the Horizon Council, Horizon Foundation, the Chamber of Southwest Florida and the Society of Human Resource Management of SWFL (SHRM) recognizing Lee County companies who actively promote a healthy workplace for their employees.
The meeting also featured keynote speaker, Mike Tinney, pioneer of fitness gamification and Founder/CEO of FIX: Fitness Interactive eXperience, who discussed the importance of corporate wellness programs and how gamification can play a role. Learn more about gamification and Mike Tinney click here.
