On November 17 over 100 business and community leaders attended the Horizon Council’s final General Membership Meeting of the year at Florida SouthWestern State College in Fort Myers. The meeting featured the election of a new slate of Horizon Council officers, and keynote speaker Ron Gardenhire, the newly hired manager of the Detroit Tigers.
Ron managed the Minnesota Twins for 13 years with a 1,068-1,049 record. The Twins won the division six times in Ron’s first nine seasons. He is one of 10 managers in baseball history to win at least 1,000 games with one team. In 2010, he won the American League Manager of the Year Award and has finished as runner-up five times while leading the Twins. During that stint, Ron earned a reputation for teaching young players the fundamentals of the game. Ron recently served as a coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Prior to his coaching career, he played five seasons with the New York Mets, mostly at shortstop.
2018 Horizon Council officers elected were Gray Davis-Chair (Senior Vice President and Agency Executive, BB&T Oswald Trippe and Company), Dan Eveloff-Vice Chair (Ft. Myers-Naples City President, Regions Bank), Gail Markham-Treasurer (Founder, Markham, Norton, Mosteller, Wright & Company) and Chris Spiro-Secretary (CEO, Spiro & Associates).
